Sport and Social Develoment Project

BoatBuilderIn the framework of Confederation of Africa Canoeing (CAC) development project with cooperation and support of  International Canoe federation (ICF) and ÑELO KAYAKS  of Portugal , the CAC Domestic Boat Production Project was conceived in 2014  to make National Federations self-sustaining in availability of Kayaks and Canoes , boats being one of the key  component ofthe Olympic Sport of  Canoe Kayak development.

In the process the project  transfers valuable  boat building skills and technology for maintenance of boats  to youths , who would probably never have this opportunity otherwise . In addition it provides  the Federations an economic model to create youth jobs,  provide Boats to youths/clubs not only for Training and Competition,  but also Sports Tourism, Adventure and even Livelihood.

It then opens  up another opportunity for Federations  to host National , Regional and Continental Championships , thereby  significantly  impacting positively  on increasing the standard of performance of paddlers.

After completion of Project in Tunisia , other on going Projects are in  Morocco  and Egypt

Sudan is expected to launch the Project  in April 2017  on the occasion of International Day of Sports for development celebrated on April 5 .

Increasing  the number of Federation benifiting from  this Project continues to face serious financial challenges .

Nigeria, Sao Tome, Mozambique and Somalia  are other Federation who have expressed keen interest to get involved.

Morocco  will host Africa U23 and Jnr Canoe Sprint Championships  later this month  and boats made sucessfuly under this project will be launched in a Exhibition to celebrate the International Day of Sports for Development.
